Resume
This trek in the Vilcanota range reaches heights of over 5,000mt-16,400ft and has fabulous panoramic views of crystalline lakes and the nearby mountains. You will see typical Andean animals as llamas, alpacas and vicuñas. Meet local Quechua speaking people and learn about their religion (their relationship with the Apus - mountain spirits), customs and life in the Andes. This hike is quite a long and difficult one (7-8 hours a day), so we recommend that you prepare by doing shorter walks at altitude 3 days before starting the hike.
Itinerary
1st day: Cuzco - TinquiPickup from the hotel and transfer to the village of Tinqui (7 hours) and start the hike next day.
2nd day: Tinqui - Upis
After the breakfast we start walking to Upis (6-7 hours). You'll enjoy the typical high Andean landscape of glaciers and mountain lakes.

The walk becomes more difficult as we climb higher. We'll see more lakes and pass close to the glacier of Ausangate, which is the highest mountain in the region 6,320mt-20,730ft. After about a 7-hour walk, we'll camp near lake Quinsacocha.
4th day: Quinsacocha - Pampacahua
Another day of climbing! We'll see lakes, glaciers, snow covered mountains of 6,000mt-19,680ft and have views of other valleys. It's a 6-7 hour walk to reach the campsite at Pampacahua.
5th day: Pampacahua - Jampa
You pass small villages of people attired in traditional Andean clothing. Campsite is in the village of Jampa. There may be some time to try your luck at fishing.
