DESCRIPTION The trek to Machu Picchu represents a unique and pleasant experience lasting 2 days and one night; you will receive knowledge held by the local population and enjoy seeing archeological sites related to the traditional type of agriculture; the salt mines are managed by the local villagers who have been allocating their resources since ancestral times. You will admire not only the natural landscapes of Maras, located in the upper part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, but also Machu Picchu where you will get an idea of the cosmovision and way of life of the ancient Peruvians. We invite you to enjoy this moving experience which opens new ways of knowing Cusco, Machu Picchu and all the other wonders you are looking forward to seeing. Itinerary
ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO - MARAS - OLLANTA - MACHU PICCHU
Leaving Cusco in the morning we will first visit the archeological groupings of the Cheqoq grain distribution warehouses, and Moray, an experimental agricultural center of the Incas, and Maras. We continue our walk from Maras to the Salineras, salt mines which were run by the community.
We then leave for Tarabamba where we meet our transportation to the train station of Ollantaytambo. There we take the train for Machu Picchu Pueblo.
The explanations by a professional guide will give you a good overview of the type of experimentation and acclimatization of the agricultural products in consumed in this area, as well as the salt mines which belong to the community of the Maras Ayllu. The products which are presently grown here are based on traditional planting methods and harvested according to the calendar of mother earth.
The train-ride from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu Pueblo lasts approximately 3 hours. We will overnight in a hotel.
DAY 2: MACHU PICCHU - MODERN WONDER
We leave early in the morning to catch the bus which will take us directly to the archeological site; after a 2.5 hour guided tour you may walk around the Citadel on your own, possibly even considering a hike up to Huaynapicchu for which you have to register; entrance is at 6:00 and at 10:00 a.m. and only a limited number of persons may enter. In the afternoon we board the train for our return to the City of Cusco.
