ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO - SAN PEDRO DE CACHORA - CHIQUISCA
We travel very early in a northeasterly direction toward the community of San Pedro de Cachora where we arrive after a 2.5 hour trip. In the presence of the majestic Padrayoc Glacier, at 5,570 meters of altitude, we meet all the people who will make sure that this adventure is comfortable, considering the altitude in the different places we visit.
After inspecting all the gear related to the camping trip and the horses who will accompany the expedition, we begin our walk admiring the great diversity of wildlife which nature shows us, and sometimes making contact with the people in the small villages we cross, like La Colmena and La Aguada; we then reach the look-out on the Capuliyoc road from where we can see the entire Apurimac Valley; surrounded by this impressive panorama we have lunch before we continue alongside the farmhouses of Huayhuacalle, Tinajayoc, Cocamasana, Torwisqana, always surrounded by picturesque landscapes, until we finally reach Chiquisca where we spend the night.
DAY 2: CHIQUISCA - ROSALINA - CHOQUEQUIRAO
Again we get up early and, after breakfast, begin our walk to our ultimate objective, Choquequiraw. We hike up toward the shores of the Apurimac River, called Playa Rosalina where we scoop up some crystalline water from below the glaciers of the area; we continue observing the impressive canyon of the Apurimac, its depth, the banks of the river as we climb toward Marampata from where we see the impressive sight of the archeological complex of ChoquekirawWe camp here and spend the night.
DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO - SAN IGNACIO - CARMEN
After watching the sunrise in Choquekiraw we walk into the archeological area, throughout the entire complex, admiring the great mastery and intelligence of the people who built this vestige, reminding us of the glorious time of the Inca Empire. Looking at the scene of the Apurimac Canyon, we reach the Playa San Ignacio, surrounded by the flora and fauna of the area. After lunch we continue to the Orchard Carmen, named so because of the paradise-like environment of the area. We have our camp and spend the night.
DAY 4: EL CARMEN - TAMBOBAMBA - HUANIPACA - CUSCO
After breakfast we begin our walk toward the Tambobamba Hacienda, a place that reminds us of the colonial era and the hard work, under pressure, of the farmers; today this area is rich in agriculture and livestock; we continue on to visit the community of Pacobamba before we enter into Huanipaca where we can admire the whole chain of the Sacsarayoq glaciers in all their splendor; they are located in the Vilcanota region.
